]]><![CDATA["Hebrew for Newbies"]]>Fri, 13 Aug 2010 22:22:33 -0800http://www.joyfuljunction.com/1/post/2010/08/hebrew-for-newbies.htmlA few nights ago, a friend of mine referred to the Hebrew course that I've been working on as somewhat like 'Hebrew for Dummies'....lol. Obviously, this friend has been studying Hebrew for awhile :-)

This honest observation actually inspired me a bit.  Perhaps, I can begin referring to the course as "HEBREW FOR NEWBIES." (??) Initially, the course was intended to help other home educating families & a few curious adults that are interested in a simple approach to beginning to learn the Hebrew Language. So far, I've received good feedback from both groups. HalleluYah!

Well, after several months of producing the written course, now I'm on to producing an online video guide.

INGREDIENTS: Graham Crackers, Nutella Spread, Marshmellow Creame (with a kosher "K")

This treat was a tasty alternative to using marshmelllows with gelatin (keep in mind that some products derive gelatin from the collagen of unclean animals.---just look for the circled "K")

]]><![CDATA[Why Homeschool?]]>Fri, 13 Aug 2010 22:06:32 -0800http://www.joyfuljunction.com/1/post/2010/08/why-homeschool.htmlLast week I came across a list I wrote a few years ago about "Why We Homeschool?"  Truthfully, I didn't see myself as a home educator when I was growing up, (I didn't even see myself as a wife or mother.... was just a free spirit, going with the flow. )

Thankfully, Marlon had a clear vision that he desired his children to receive their primary education from home.  Ultimately, it works out pretty well that I come from multi-generational lineage of educators :-), so I REALLY enjoy teaching!!

Below are are a few reasons I drafted:
  • Lay a foundation for their character based on Biblical Truths
  • Enjoy consistent study of the Bible
  • Instill a clear identity with limited peer influence
  • Allow interaction with various age groups & social settings
  • Establish healthy living habits
  • Nurture their God-given talents
  • Pursue positive interests
  • Protect their innocence & equip them with tools as they prepare for their future
  • Correct them from foolish tendencies on a consistent basis
  • Encourage them to Love the Lord first with all their heart (primarily through example)
  • Demonstrate & Teach responsibility of a family
  • Trust in the Lord as their source
  • Fear not and Pray often
  • Incorporate Prayer in daily living
  • Customize curriculum that is designed for each child's strengths/weaknesses & their learning styles
  • Consistently asses the flow/success of learning and adjust accordingly
  • Make optimal use of our time

Phew! That was a mouthful (lol), and that's not even the full list!  I hope to continue adding as we approach out 10year home educating anniversary.


Consider taking the time to reflect upon some of the "Why's" in your life :-)
