Isn't Lightning Electricity? 06/29/2011
During our family discussion time on Shabbat, I mentioned the Jewish Restrictions on Sabbath (Melachah). We read a few examples and one that stood out was Not Burning because "In general, any use of electricity violates the spirit of the Sabbath, since it involves extracting energy from nature." ( http://www.akhlah.com/holidays/shabbat/39/39.php ) I proceeded to share that though it is difficult to keep all traditional man-made commands, the instructions of YHWH in the Torah are not burdensome, but a delightful way to show our love for him. Then, shortly later we heard thunder and saw lightning in the distance. Next, my 9 year old asked (on the Sabbath,): "Isn't Lightning Electricity?" CommentsLeave a Reply | "Sabbath Delights"
Updates from our favorite set-apart day of the week.... Sabbath, שבת(Shabbat)  Shemoth (Exo) 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart. Six days you labour, and shall do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath1 of יהוה your Elohim. You do not do any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
