Dancing & Wholesome Praise Music 12/03/2011
1 Comment

My dear friend/sister and I both delight in the music by this group:http://zemerlevav.org/

This family has beautiful praise dancing and regularly tours to different congregations.  If you visit their website, then you'll hear samples of their music
Also, here's an excerpt about "Messianic Dance" from http://www.innercourtdancers.vze.com/

"Messianic Dance - Biblically Sound?....Dance is a form of praise and worship talked about often in Scripture, to give just a few examples:

From Exodus 15:20 when Miriam and the women go out and DANCE in triumph; In 2 Samuel 6:14 when David DANCED before YHVH with all his might; In Psalms 149:3 "Let them praise His Name in the DANCE:..."; In Psalms 150:4 "Praise Him with the timbrel and DANCE:..."; In Luke 15:25 where they are DANCING to rejoice that the prodigal-son had returned - and this is said in an illustration by Yeshua Messiah Himself relating it to one repenting and returning to
YHVH!

As a child dances for joy, so we too should allow ourselves to be led of The Ruach/Spirit Of
YHVH in all Biblical forms of praise and worship - including dance....Rahkaid L'YAH!"

Festivals of YHWH 09/28/2011

This was a very informative document about the Festivals of YHWH.  Since we're coming upon the Fall Feasts, I thought it would be appropriate to share this info. One of the things I particularly like about this information, is that it references both the TaNaK (aka Old Testament) and the Brit Chadasha (aka "New Testament".)

Please review by clicking on the link, then consider sharing your thoughts.

BTW, I'm unable to site the author because I had this in my study notes or awhile.  However, I believe it may have come from the author of Heart of Wisdom ( http://heartofwisdom.com/biblicalholidays/ )

Considering the Children 06/30/2011
0 Comments

A couple years ago, a friend out east mentioned a little tradition their family keeps....on Sabbath night, the children sleep in their parents room versus their own bedrooms.  We recently decided to give this idea a try.

I noticed that this scenario actually has a little symbolism to it:
If our hope is for our children to be part of  the Kingdom of Elohim(God) for eternal rest, then it's a good practice for us to start making preparations now as a family

One of these preparations is to remember to consistently pray for your children.  It's also vital teach them the instructions of YHWH daily.  In addition to reading directly from the Scriptures, it's helped us to play the audio readings from the parashot before bedtime on Shabbat.

Ultimately, our children are the next generation of righteous seed representing the Kingdom of Elohim, so it's our responsibility to nurture them.

This illustration is from my 6 year old daughter.  If you look closely , you'll see Torah readings, Tzit Tzit, Challah bread, a few Hebrew letters and even someone blowing the Shofar....What a wonderful expression of our daily lifestyle and our set-apart gatherings.

Isn't Lightning Electricity? 06/29/2011

During our family discussion time on Shabbat, I mentioned the Jewish Restrictions on Sabbath (Melachah).  We read a few examples and one that stood out was Not Burning because "In general, any use of electricity violates the spirit of the Sabbath, since it involves extracting energy from nature."  ( http://www.akhlah.com/holidays/shabbat/39/39.php )

I proceeded to share that though it is difficult to keep all traditional man-made commands, the instructions of YHWH in the Torah are not burdensome, but a delightful way to show our love for him. Then, shortly later we heard thunder and saw lightning in the distance.  Next, my 9 year old asked (on the Sabbath,):

"Isn't Lightning Electricity?"

"Faithful Expectations" 06/16/2011

Our Sabbath lesson dealt with Faith as taught by the Messiah in the Scriptures and I was so blessed & encouraged by this teaching.  I really appreciated the insights concerning the Scripture about 1.Not Laying up Treasures on Earth, (Matthew 6:19) and 2.Seeking the Kingdom of Elohim first (Luke 12:31)

This is the link to the teaching for those who want a boost of faith building, (approx 90min):

This lesson also reminds me of a little family game we did in Louisiana. Basically, you 1. Write down some thought-provoking faith based questions on little cards. 2.Put them in a jar 3.Occasionally have one of your children take out a card to read. 4.Discuss as a family. This really opens up good dialogue about our Faith....

"But set apart יהוה Elohim in your hearts, and always be ready to give an answer to everyone asking you a reason concerning the expectation that is in you, with meekness and fear"     (1Kefa/1Peter 3:15)

For those interested in this family activity, I have listed some starters for discussion which is entitled "FAITHFUL EXPECTATIONS" It can be found under resources on http://exploringhebrew.weebly.com/  Also, you will notice there is a blank page for you to add your own questions.

Here's a quick link to this pdf file:

Resources for Memorizing the 10 Commandments 06/09/2011

In an effort to help our children learn "The 10 Words", (aka 10 commandments) from a Hebrew perspective, I did a little online research and complied some hand motions for each one according to their order.

Here's my written list and I hope to eventually put up a video once the children learn these motions (click to download the pdf file):

For the excerpts from Deuteronomy and Exodus, you can click below (taken from The Scriptures Bible version):

There were a few videos on YouTube that gave me ideas for this list.  Simply do a search on YouTube with words like: 10 commandments, hand motions, memorization, fingers, learn, etc.

Also, I found these flashcards that helped with the first 3 commandments (although I still did a little variation to try to emphasize the Hebraic mndset. For example, with commandment#3 referring to taking on the name or in Hebrew the "shem" which means  character of YHWH in falsehood (as opposed to just not saying His "name" or "title" in vain):

As usual, Hebrew4Christians is a great resource for The 10 Commandments:

Finally, here's a seven page set of worksheets to help enhance learning these commandments:

ENJOY TEACHING THESE COMMANDMENTS :-)

“And these Words which I am commanding you today shall be in your heart, and you shall impress them upon your children, and shall speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up..."  (Deu 6:6-7 )

    "Sabbath Delights"

Updates from our favorite set-apart day of the week.... Sabbath, שבת(Shabbat)

    Picture

    Shemoth (Exo) 20:8-11

“Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart. Six days you labour, and shall do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath1 of יהוה your Elohim. You do not do any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days יהוה made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore יהוה blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart."

    Wayyiqra (Lev) 23:2-3

“Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and say to them, ‘The appointed times of יהוה, which you are to proclaim as set-apart gatherings, My appointed times, are these:
‘Six days work is done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a set-apart gathering. You do no work, it is a Sabbath to יהוה in all your dwellings. "

    Yeshayahu (Isa)58:13-14

“If you do turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My set-apart day, and shall call the Sabbath ‘a delight,’ the set-apart day of יהוה ‘esteemed,’ and shall esteem it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words,
Isa 58:14  then you shall delight yourself in יהוה. And I shall cause you to ride on the heights of the earth, and feed you with the inheritance of Yaʽaqoḇ your father. For the mouth of יהוה has spoken!”
